WAYNESBORO, Pa. – Dogs of all ages, shapes and sizes are invited to Mainstreet Waynesboro’s Second Annual Puppies in the Park Saturday, September 21st, 2019 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Main Street Park.

Puppies in the Park is sponsored by Longmeadow Animal Hospital and organized by Mainstreet Waynesboro and the Antietam Humane Society.

The event features dog washes, a doggie parade and costume party, nail trims, dog treats for sale by the Humane Society’s Shelter Buddies and a chance to support Waynesboro’s nonprofits.

“Last year, we had a ball,” said Bill Kohler, director of Mainstreet Waynesboro Inc.

Kohler said 96 dogs (“give or take a few legs here or there”) attended last year’s Puppies in the Park. He expects Saturday’s event to eclipse the century mark this year.

Students from the Waynesboro Area Senior High School will be doing dog washes by donation.

A highlight last year was the costume parade and contest. There is a $2 donation to join the costume contest, which will follow the parade.

Categories for this year include: Funniest, Cutest, Looks Most Like Owner, Most Original, Judges’ Choice and Best of Show.

Willowbrook Pet Resort & Spa is the sponsor of the costume contest and is giving away a weekend stay at the resort as one of the top contest prizes.

All dogs must be on leashes, be updated with their shots; and owners are asked to bring bags in case of any “accidents.”

Donations of pet food, cat litter, laundry detergent and bleach for the humane society are appreciated.

Grooming by Deana Jo will be on hand to pamper any pooches who need trimmed and will have giveaways as well.

Also on hand will be Dr. Tracy Barlup, owner of Longmeadow Animal Hospital; Pet Valu of Waynesboro; Lori Brooks from Willowbook Pet Resort & Spa and some adoptable dogs from the humane society.
