Local author Sue James is strongly supportive of the work of Shippensburg’s Reins of Rhythm program. So supportive that this fall she will donate part of the money she earns from her upcoming book to the program.

Her seventh book, The Angel Opens Her Eyes, is due out this fall.

After much soul-searching and research, James chose Reins of Rhythm as her beneficiary. The decision was based on the fact that her own daughter was helped by interaction with horses. She believes in what Reins of Rhythm is doing and wanted to support their mission of helping children.

Her book tells the stories of children diagnosed with autism who succeeded in moving away from the spectrum to lead fulfilling, independent lives.

James, a 20-year veteran childcare provider, has told many of the stories featured in her books to her children. She weaves valuable life lessons and inspiration into stories while teaching children about their world.

Her children’s books are based on those stories, preserved in colorful, fun-loving adventure stories for children to read again and again.

Message to Kids: You Can Be an Author Too

During her writing career, she presented copies of her books to over 3,500 elementary students. She visited more than a dozen local schools, sharing her vision, “You Can be an Author Too!”

A number of local newspapers have featured James and her titles in articles. WHAG/WDVM TV station frequently features her in broadcasts about childcare, literacy and managing children’s use of technology in today’s fast-paced world.

Last year, the Pennsylvania Child Care Association, PACCA, highlighted James in a live webinar. She recently shared her story and introduced her upcoming book on 103.7 FM radio.

The Angel Opens Her Eyes tells about her family’s journey in overcoming Autism. It is a full-length non-fiction book that tells her family’s story as well as the success stories of other families. James hopes the book helps people with loved ones who live on the Autism Spectrum.
