A one-year-old boy is in critical condition today and his mother and her roommate are charged with having the heroin that almost killed him.
Amanda Ann Christian, 26, Greencastle, and her roommate, Jesse Daugherty, 25, face charges of endangering the welfare of a child, possession of a controlled substance and possession and use of drug paraphernalia.
Pennsylvania State Police were called to the couple’s Antrim Township home at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday morning for a report that the child was unresponsive and blue from an opioid overdose.
Emergency medical personnel were already on the scene treating the child. He was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Washington DC, where he tested positive for opioids.
He is currently in critical condition, police said.
Police obtained a search warrant for the home, where they found drug paraphernalia.
According to police, both Christian and Daugherty admitted to being heroin users and having heroin in their house. Christian told police she “backed out” Tuesday After snorting heroin and woke up to find her son unresponsive and blue.
Magisterial District Judge David Plum set bail for both Christian and Daugherty at $500,000 during a preliminary arraignment Tuesday afternoon. Both are in Franklin County Jail today, unable to post bail.
Preliminary hearings are set for Dec. 17 in both cases.
