Tis’ the season… for celebrating the holidays with lights, music… and shopping for gifts to go under the tree.
In an effort to counter Black Friday’s big box store shopping, Small Business Saturday encourages local residents to patronize locally owned businesses during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year – Thanksgiving weekend!
This year, on November 30, support local Franklin County businesses by buying local. Check out some of the specials that local businesses are offering during this special day!
Small Business Saturday is happening all over Franklin County. In the central downtown business districts in the county’s small towns, you will find holiday sales at locally owned and operated businesses.
Did you know that for every $1 spent at small business, 67 cents stays in that community? Those are some very impactful numbers.
So this year, think about supporting local businesses in Franklin County by buying local.
While all of the county’s downtown businesses have special plans for the day, Chambersburg and Greencastle will offer cash incentives on Saturday.for coming out and buying local.
In Greencastle, the Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce offers a holiday sweepstakes contest called Shop Small Sweepstakes. The contest begins on Shop Small Saturday, sponsored this year by McCrea Heating & Air Services, on November 30, and will run through December 15.
The rules are simple. Participants shop at five different Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce member locations between Nov. 30-Dec. 15. Turn in your receipts with the sweepstakes form to the Chamber office by Dec. 15. You will be entered into a drawing for cash prizes on Dec. 16. (Receipts will be returned after proof of purchase.) Three lucky winners will receive a cash prize in the amount of $25.00 each.
It’s the Chamber’s way of saying thanks to both its members and the community.

Downtown Chambersburg’s Plans
Chambersburg has its own version of the Greencastle sweepstakes, with more winners. Shoppers that buy $25 or more at downtown businesses between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. can receive Downtown Dollars vouchers.
More than $2,500 in Downtown Dollars will be given away to shoppers who present a receipt for $25 or more dated Nov. 30 from a Downtown Chambersburg business. Present your receipt from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of F&M Trust on the Square of Chambersburg to receive your giveaway.
What’s more, the 11/30 Visitors Center will have complimentary gift wrapping from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on Small Business Saturday. The visitors center is located on the southwest side of the town square next to Central Presbyterian Church.
Mainstreet Waynesboro’s Plans
In Waynesboro, Mainstreet Waynesboro invites residents to do their holiday shopping at one of the dozens of stores in downtown Waynesboro on Small Business Saturday.
Mainstreet Waynesboro is proud to support its growing hive of businesses.
In addition to the stores and great places to eat, Mainstreet Waynesboro is hosting two events to encourage shoppers of all ages to come downtown on Small Business Saturday.
- A special holiday showing of “Polar Express” at 11 a.m. at Waynesboro Theatre. Admission is $4 and includes a ticket, popcorn and a regular-size soda. The movie is sponsored by AFS Insurance and Financial Services of Waynesboro and Mainstreet Waynesboro.
- Santa and Mrs. Claus will take time from their busy schedule to visit downtown Waynesboro from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Santa starts his day walking around town, visiting the Waynesboro Theatre before showtime and then greeting local boys and girls at JB Business Solutions at 33 W. Main St.
