LA PLUME, Pa.- The Phoenix softball team traveled to Keystone College Saturday afternoon for a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader against the Giants.
Wilson (22-6-2, 12-0 CSAC) was able to keep their perfect CSAC record alive by defeating the Giants in both games with scores of 2-1 and 7-1.
The Giants jumped on the board first in game one, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after a single to right center allowed a run to score from second.
The Phoenix offense was held in check through the first four innings but in the fifth inning they got things going with back-to-back walks. Jessica Kosheba (Marietta, Pa., Donegal) (Marietta, Pa., Donegal), who was on second, advanced to third on an error by the catcher and was able to score after Jennifer Cail (Lisle, IL, Lisle) singled to left field to tie the game at one.
Two batters later, Chloe Perrin (Milton, Pa., Milton) drew a bases loaded walk that scored the second run for the Phoenix to put them ahead 2-1.
Megan Potter (Hagerstown, Md., South Hagerstown), fresh off of a perfect game performance on Wednesday, continued her dominant ways by holding the Giants to just one hit in the final three innings. Potter’s pitching helped propel the Phoenix to a 2-1 victory in game one.
Inside the Box Score
The Phoenix finished game one with nine hits but left eleven runners on base. Meghan Bradley (Warrington, PA., Central Bucks South) went 3 for 3 while Jessica Kosheba had a solid day, going 2 for 3 at the plate. Megan Potter grabbed the win in game one, going the distance and striking out 14 batters.
Wilson wasted no time grabbing their first lead in game two, sending two runs across the plate in the top of the first inning.
Jessica Kosheba got things rolling with a single to center that was followed up by Alison Shockey (Greencastle, Pa., Greencastle-Antrim) reaching base on an error. Both Phoenix baserunners advanced on a wild pitch and were brought home by Jennifer Cail who singled up the middle.
The Giants cut their deficit in half later on in the bottom of the second with an RBI double to left.
With the score sitting at 2-1 heading to the top of the fifth, the Phoenix looked to add some insurance runs to pull away from the Giants.
With runners on first and second, Jennifer Cail continued to stay hot at the plate, bringing home one run with a double down the left field line. The next batter, Meghan Bradley singled through the left side of the infield to knock in another run, as Wilson took a 4-1 lead.
Two batters later, Jenna Carty (Chambersburg, Pa., Greencastle-Antrim) singled to right field that scored two runs to push the Phoenix ahead 6-1.
Wilson went on to add another run in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Chloe Perrin and then picked up the final three outs in the bottom half to secure the 7-1 win.
