GUILFORD TOWNSHIP — Rumors of a possible merger of a local trailer manufacturing firm with a similar national firm were confirmed today with an announcement that ATW of Richardson, Texas, has bought the BWise and Bri-Mar trailer brands.

ATW is North America’s leading provider of trailers, according to the firm’s website.

The BWise and Bri-Mar trailer brands will join Big Tex and PJ Trailers under the leadership of Steve Courreges, according to BWise Manufacturing. Brian Wise will remain in his role for a transition period. He plans to eventually serve in a broader strategic role within ATW.

The purchase will help extend ATW’s reach into the Northeast, while ATW’s purchasing and manufacturing scale, commercial capabilities and dealer tools will help to continue to grow the BWise business, executives from both companies said today.

BWise plans to continue its local operations in Chambersburg at its 414,000 square foot manufacturing facility. It currently employs about 115 people, including experienced welders machinists, painters, and assemblers.

Move Will Mean Production Expansion at Local Plant

Dave McKee, General Manager and vice president of Sales at BWise, said the merger with ATW will mean a production expansion at the local plant over the next 6-12 months. He said the firm’s long-range plan includes doubling our current manufacturing output in the next 2-3 years.

“We have plenty of space — 414,000 square feet — so we are well-positioned to expand.”

“Bringing BWise into the ATW portfolio fundamentally strengthens both parties,” said ATW Pro Grade president Steve Courreges. “Our complementary brands, capabilities, and footprints will help us reinforce our mutual commitment to our customers: providing differentiated brands, products and business services that allow our partners to reach their full potential.”

“In ATW, we found a partner and sponsor with the resources and expertise to expand on what we’ve built in a way that moves us forward in our vision of what BWise can be,” said Brian Wise. “I appreciate their commitment not just to offering leading products and brands, but to the health and growth of their dealer partners. I’m excited to join the ATW team as we chart the road ahead for the trailer industry.”
