MONT ALTO – Penn State Mont Alto Director of Athletics Staci Brennan announced today that Kevin Geesaman has been named the new head coach of the Mont Alto cross country programs.
“I am delighted to welcome Kevin Geesaman to our athletic department as the new men’s and women’s cross country coach,” said Brennan. “He brings several years of coaching experience with him to Penn State Mont Alto and is well connected within the surrounding community having grown up in Waynesboro. This will greatly benefit the program in their recruiting efforts.”
Geesaman comes to Mont Alto most recently from Waynesboro Area High School, where he has volunteered as an assistant track and field coach as well as helped coach the golf program, basketball and baseball programs in various roles.
He has been coaching at Waynesboro since 2009. Prior to that he served as a volunteer assistant coach at Shippensburg University where he helped Steve Spence prepare and develop daily workouts.
He competed collegiately at both Shippensburg and Penn State University. Overall, he earned a varsity letter from the Red Raiders and five letters running on the cross country and track and field team’s at University Park.
Geesaman is the PSU record holder in the 2000-meter event with a time of 1:04:40, which he accomplished in 1998.
“Running both cross country and track for Penn State under legendary coach Harry Groves was a unique and rewarding experience,” said Geesaman. “His program was one of high mileage along with speed/interval training, as well as weight training.”
Geesaman plans to implement some of the same types of workouts here at Mont Alto and is excited to hit the ground running.
“The opportunity to coach at my alma mater and build a program is exciting,” remarked Geesaman. “My goal is to develop student-athletes that are successful in the classroom, community, and in competition.”
A resident of Waynesboro, Geesaman graduated from Penn State University in 1999 with a degree in rehabilitation education. He currently also teaches sixth grade math at the Waynesboro Area Middle School.
