WAYNESBURG (Sept. 9, 2019) —  The Wilson College men’s soccer team traveled for a non-conference match-up with Waynesburg University. A goal with less than a minute remaining in regulation lifted the host Yellow Jackets (2-2) over the Phoenix (1-3) for a final score of 5-4.

How It Happened:

The Yellow Jackets jumped on the board early with a shot from just outside the 18 yard mark. That shot found the back right corner to score the goal for a 1-0.

Later in the half, the hosts pushed their lead to 2-0 off of a free kick. With under thirteen minutes to play in the half, the Phoenix got on the board when freshman Garrick Hill (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg) scored on a penalty kick to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Yellow Jackets. Twenty-five seconds later freshman Juan Lamy (Clarksburg, MD., Living Grace Christian School) launched a shot from midfield that found the top right corner of the goal, knotting the game at 2-2. The score remained tied heading into the intermission.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets again scored early, grabbing a 3-2 advantage. Two minutes later, the Phoenix hit the equalizer when freshman Aaron Harrison (Archbald, PA., Valley View) chipped one in with an assist from senior Oliver Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary), evening the score at 3-3.

Midway through the second half, the Phoenix took their first lead of the match when Hill found freshman Christopher Sosa (Mechanicsburg, PA., Mechanicsburg) on a free kick. Sosa headed into the net for a 4-3 Phoenix advantage.

For the match the Yellow Jackets out shot the Phoenix 22-8 including a 12-6 edge in shots on goal. Each team had 3 corner kicks and Phoenix goalkeeper Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) recorded 7 saves.
