CHAMBERSBURG — I-81 southbound between Chambersburg and Marion is expected to reopen within the next hour. The interstate has been closed following an accident at about 1 a.m. Thursday morning.

Franklin Fire Company responded to the scene of an accident involving a tractor-trailer, hauling approximately 26,000 pounds of lumber on Interstate 81 at 1 a.m. this morning. The truck was traveling south when it lost its load at Mile Marker 14 on the south of Chambersburg near the Wayne Avenue exit.

The load of lumber was scattered across both southbound lanes, the median, and into one Northbound lane. No injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved.

According to state police, the I 81 northbound lane is open, the southbound lane is closed from exit 10 in Marion to exit 16 at Lincoln Way in Chambersburg.

Traffic has been rerouted around rt 11 through Chambersburg.
