CHAMBERSBURG (Sept. 14, 2019) — Helping women find clothes they truly love and feel good in has always been a passion for Penny Shaul. She has satisfied that passion as owner and proprietor of a downtown boutique specializing in women’s fashion clothes and accessories.
Here’s Looking At you celebrates its 15th anniversary this month, just in time for faithful customers to browse the latest line of fall fashions.
Over the years, Penny’s passion for helping customers find their ideal outfits and accessories has translated into a loyal following. Many say they would not shop anywhere else.
Gloria Walker is one of those customers. She loves the quality and styles Penny stocks and praises the customer service.
“Many of the brands Penny sells are sold in top quality boutiques across this country, ” she said. “The prices are very reasonable considering the quality.”
Others agree. Many consider Penny herself to be the biggest draw to Here’s Looking At You. They love the clothing but say the help they get from Penny keeps them coming back. She can see what is going to work and takes whatever time is necessary to help her customers make choices that are right for them.
“I am truly blessed that we have had such a loyal customer base stay with us,” she said. “I have met the most remarkable women here.”
Her customers describe her merchandise as “nothing ordinary and everything extraordinary.”
Some call the store “an awesome alternative to the humdrum experience for shopping at department or chain stores”.
They praise her for her insight and the effort she puts into helping them pick out clothing fitting their lifestyle. They call the downtown shop a “gem” and “treasure.”
How It All Began…
Penny’s retail journey actually started on a career day in high school.
“We had someone in fashion merchandising come and speak,” she said. “It sparked an interest that has stayed with me.”
Out of high school, she went to college to study Fashion Merchandising and Business. She started working in a small, family-owned boutique that sold junior & missy fashions, bridal and furs.
She started in sales but was soon promoted to a supervisory position.
Penny left that store to work at a boutique catering to men and women, specializing in Levi jeans. When the owner decided to open a more boutique-style store just for women, she took Penny with her.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to learn how to start a clothing store from the ground up,” she said.
When Penny and her husband Guy came to Chambersburg, they took the leap and opened Here’s Looking At You.
Building a Successful Business
Here’s Looking At You is a women’s clothing store with distinctive women’s clothing and unique accessories.
“We try to help women purchase clothes that they are comfortable in and look great,” Penny said.
She stocks a range of casual and dressy fashions. The store carries a “fantastic selection” of jeans in a variety of styles and fits (including petites and womens).
Lines include Tribal, Renuar, Nic & Zoe, Tianello, Charlie B. Joseph Ribkoff, Clara Sun Woo, Comfy USA, Not your Daughter’s Jean NYDJ, French Dressing Jeans FDJ, Liverpool, Spanx and more!
Penny goes on buying trips to New York four times a year. She supplements that with trips to smaller shows near Baltimore twice a year.
