FATETTEVILLE (Oct. 4, 2019) — Outside, it was cold and wet, but inside this small community’s elementary school the atmosphere was warm and cheery. And filled with kindness.

Pennsylvania State Senator Doug Mastriano (R-33) was in town to carry out a very special task.

He was there to present Chambersburg Area School District (CASD) employee Teresa Kegg with a Senate certificate recognizing her outstanding service as a custodian at Fayetteville Elementary School.

Kegg Won a “kindness challenge” award last month after CASD Superintendent Dr. Dion Betts asked district employees to submit stories of colleagues who committed kind acts, or otherwise carried out their normal duties with kindness.

Entries poured in, 150 of them, indicating a lot of kindness was going on across the county’s largest school district.

Choosing one was not an easy task, but Kegg won hands down.

“Teresa was nominated not just for her kindness but also for her work ethic, which is amazing,” Betts said. “I was really excited because we have an unsung hero here who daily works hard on behalf of the staff and children. Often times folks go unrecognized and we want to change that.”

So, apparently, does Pennsylvania’s Senate.

Mastriano gave Kegg the Senate certificate at the monthly meeting for Fayetteville Elementary School staff.

“It’s an important task you all have here,” Mastriano told the staff gathered for the meeting. “Thank you for fighting the good fight and for shaping this next generation.”

He said both the state and nation face challenges at this point in history.

‘It’s important that you don’t give up,” he said. “We need each one of you.”

The Kindness Certificate Reads:

  • Whereas, the Senate of Pennsylvania takes great pride in recognizing and honoring Teresa Kegg upon receiving the Kindness Challenge Award;
  • and whereas, Teresa Kegg has proven to be an outstanding citizen who exemplifies the finest virtues of American life;
  • and now, therefore, Senator Doug Mastriano heartily congratulates Teresa Kegg on this momentous occasion and wishes a future replete with good health, happiness and personal fulfillment.
