GREENCASTLE — Dozens of groups of volunteers either have or will soon be spreading out across Franklin County to clean their communities.
The Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce is joint the effort by organizing a 2019 Great American Cleanup of PA Event.
“Keep Greencastle Green” will take place on Saturday, April 27.
Bags, gloves, and vests will be provided by PennDot, and Mountainview Reclamation Landfill will offer disposal for the event.
The Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers to participate.
Community and civic associations, schools and youth groups, families and friends, business employees, hunting and fishing clubs, conservation organizations, sports teams, and others can organize their members and participate in the “Keep Greencastle Green” event.
Participants so far include Maugans Avenue Sprint, Jay Reece Prepaid Boost Mobile, RE/MAX Elite Services, Crossroads Church, and Mayor Ben Thomas.
The Great American Cleanup of PA is a program of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. It is held in conjunction with Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup.
The Cleanup is the country’s largest community improvement program, engaging more than 4 million volunteers and participants from more than 20,000 communities across the country.
The idea is to take local action to create positive change and lasting impact.
During the 2018 Great American Cleanup, 108,638 cleaned up 6.6 million pounds of trash during 5,362 events across the state.
Current 2019 supporters include: Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association, Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Food Merchants Association, Mahantango, Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority and Republic Services.
