William Chua, Assistant Director of Diagnostic Imaging at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital retired last month after 38 years of service.
After learning about his retirement plans, his team thought they needed to take care of the man that took care of them all those years.
“He recognizes our potential before we even see it in ourselves,” said Meghan Chestnut, CT Technologist. “He takes care of our team, brings in food if we’ve had a long day or night and remembers us as we have events in our personal lives too.”
The office retirement celebration featured the cake, chips and everything expected to be at a party, but what can’t be seen in the group photo is the connection between the staff.
“We’re a family before we are coworkers,” said Shelly Holtry, CT Technologist.
Se said Chua is a reliable leader who goes above and beyond in his job for his team.
When it came to retirement, the staff asked Chua what he wanted. He said he wanted a minivan or a cruise. They took up a collection.
At a retirement picnic, the staff presented him with an inflatable cruise ship and more than $3,000 for a cruise.
Chua is a humble man who is always thinking about others.
He was asked about his long career at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital, but it wasn’t his own accomplishments he mentioned.
“I couldn’t have done it without the team, they made my job easier.”
